1. Debating regulation of AI-enabled medical devices (Podcast)

The U.S. healthcare system still struggles with the infrastructure needed to validate AI algorithms, as highlighted by FDA Commissioner Robert Califf. Programs like the ACR's ARCH-AI are stepping in to monitor AI model performance in clinical workflows, providing much-needed oversight. Achieving the right level of regulation is crucialโ€”too strict, and it stifles innovation; too lenient, and patient safety is at risk. The future role of generative AI, overcoming regulatory hurdles, and ensuring evidence-based practices remain central to advancing safe and effective AI in healthcare. [Podcast Link]โ€‹

2. Cleerly raises $106M to commercialize AI-driven heart disease tool

Cleerly has secured $106 million in funding to expand the commercialization of its AI-powered tool for coronary artery analysis. The technology uses coronary CT angiography (CCTA) to create 3D models of arteries, measuring plaque, vessel narrowing, and blood flow risks noninvasively. Validated in multi-center trials and backed by a registry of over 3,500 patients, Cleerlyโ€™s system has shown significant potential, including an 86% reduction in invasive coronary angiograms. Inscrutable Wizards': How Chinese AI startup Deepseek is making Silicon Valley look slow

Greg Matson Welcome, MedTech Professionals. W5 Edition of The MedTech AI Monitor Hey there, The big news this week in the world has to do with Chinese AI Startup DeepSeek, with some claiming itโ€™s a game-changer that will upend OpenAI and NVIDIA. Letโ€™s set the record straight. Lower inference costs donโ€™t automatically translate to better models. Research in distillation shows that reducing cost and improving capabilities are increasingly separate challenges. DeepSeekโ€™s AI progress is solid but...
