1. OpenAI and Softbank are starting a $500 billion AI data center company

OpenAI, SoftBank, Oracle, and others have announced "The Stargate Project," a $500 billion initiative to build AI data centers in the U.S., starting in Texas. Key partners include Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Arm, with Oracle and OpenAI collaborating on operations. Unveiled at a White House press conference, the project aims to expand AI infrastructure over four years. Microsoft also updated its partnership with OpenAI, keeping access to its IP through 2030 while adjusting exclusivity terms to enable broader capacity-building. [Link]

2. Researchers Develop AI Software for Optometrists to Identify Dementia Risk

The University of Edinburgh is developing AI software to help optometrists detect dementia risk through routine eye tests. Using nearly a million anonymized eye scans, the tool analyzes patterns linked to conditions like Alzheimer’s. This low-cost, accessible approach could improve early detection and accelerate treatment development. [Link]

3. CergenX Wins FDA Breakthrough Designation for Neonatal EEG Assessment Tool

CergenX’s AI-powered neonatal EEG tool, Wave, has received FDA breakthrough device designation, streamlining its path to market and prioritizing review. The device, developed by the Irish startup, analyzes newborn brain activity in real time to detect brain injuries, using algorithms trained on extensive data from the University College Cork’s INFANT Research Center. Wave aims to address the shortage of neonatal neurological assessments by providing faster, point-of-care diagnostics, improving early intervention for at-risk newborns. [Link]
